Filmmaker Vincent Kelner unbiasedly shows an old tradition of hunting pilot whales on the Faroe Islands - and how it has long been fought by animal rights activists. He lets both the locals, who see the "Grindadráp" as part of their cultural identity, and Sea Shepherd activists, who describe these slaughters as "monstrous", have their say.
"It's bloody, it's barbaric, but that's the same when you kill any animal," says a local resident in the film. In slaughterhouses, the killing takes place behind closed doors. In the Faroe Islands, the bloodbath is obvious - is it therefore fought against much more? This film may question our attitude to "eating animals".
