Those who work hard and long will be richly rewarded. This myth has long since given way to bitter facts in many places, but is still popular as an ancient and neoliberal dogma.
Documentary filmmaker Fredrick Gertten sheds light on the exploitation of people and resources all over the world. He cites the murder of the Maltese journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia and a dried-up river in Chile as examples. Here, the corruption of the powerful and the exploitation of resources went too far for the people to remain silent any longer.
In addition to such depressing events, the film also offers a vision: it presents turning points that lead people to organize. Through solidarity and collective awareness, we can overcome grievances. A call to action.
