Everything will change

Marten Persiel | DE/NL | 2021 | 93 minutes | E/d

The year is 2054: Humanity has almost completed the extinction of species. By chance, Ben and Cherry come across a photograph of a giraffe in a second-hand shop. An unknown animal to them. What is the picture about? Is it a fake? The shop owner also has old video material, which Ben looks at. Why has he never heard of all the animals shown in the videos? He is able to convince his friend Fini that the videos are authentic; the two set off on a road trip in an old Mercedes.

Their journey takes them through desolate landscapes to an institute called "Arche". In its underground bunker they find many specimens and even more knowledge about all the extinct animals. With this knowledge they can win Cherry over, and the three agree: what humanity has done with its obsession with growth, the exploitation of fossil fuels and the pursuit of profit from nature must be made clear to other people. So they hack into a TV show that is seen around the world. But nobody is interested in the pictures from the "Ark". What else can they do?

They took a device from the "Ark" that turns out to be a time machine. This takes them to the year 2020. There they can see a completely different future - without plastic, with plenty of living space for plants and animals. Is this just an illusion - or a prophecy that humanity will turn things around after all?
