Transport Transition City Wolfsburg

John Mio Mehnert

2024 I GER I 56 min

German

This film documents how extraordinary activists and auto workers have used extraordinary means to riot for an ecological transport transition over the past two years. And they did so in Wolfsburg, the VW city of all places.

With humorous, media-effective actions, full-time activists and some VW colleagues stirred up sentiment against the automotive madness. They demanded the conversion of the outdated automotive industry. One of their most spectacular actions was disguising a car train leaving the production facility as a tram. In anticipation of an ecological future, this action was announced as "The first tram leaves the VW factory."

During VW's last shareholders' meeting, the activists finally decapitated the Ferdinand Porsche bust at Wolfsburg Central Station – and broadcast the action live to the shareholders' meeting.
